Artist Statement
My artwork explores the connections within nature. I record things that happen or that I see in daily life from different perspectives. I often go outdoors to take photos of interesting things and look for connections within nature. My inspiration comes from nature that I have experienced and observed, such as the irregular forms and textures found in nature.
I am interested in the relationship between the visible and the invisible. I use soft pastels and colour pencils as my materials. During the process, I like to use my fingers to smudge the soft pastels so I can feel the texture of the material. I like the effect created when these two materials are combined. It feels soft, blurry, and dreamy. I try to create a feeling as if there is a thin layer of mist, something that feels like a dream but not completely a dream, so the viewer may wonder if they have seen a similar scene before.
In daily life, the nature we see every day is always different, but the details and beauty of nature are often easily overlooked. I use abstract forms to handle my images so that the objects become less specific. Through my work, I hope to bring attention back to the small natural details that are often ignored in everyday life, and I also hope viewers will think about their relationship and connection with nature.
